Wine taste sessions

A tasting session is a private list for tasting many wines in one go: a wine dinner, a blind tasting, a trade fair. You add wines by name, write quick notes and give points from 50 to 100, and everything saves as you type. A wine can stay a free text name, or you can match it to its Vinify wine profile. Notes on matched wines also become private tasting notes on your profile, and you can publish them to the wine's public page when you are ready. You can share a session with an access code so friends taste the same wines and write their own notes. All tasted collects every wine you have tasted, from sessions and from your other tasting notes. Sessions are on the web and in the iOS app.

How to use it

Start a session

  1. Web: open WineTaste in the menu and click New session. iOS: open your profile, go to Sessions, and tap Create your first tasting session (or the create button).
  2. Give the session a name and, if you like, a description.
  3. Add wines:
    • Web: type at least three letters in the search field. Pick a wine from the Vinify database, or choose Add "…" as unmatched wine to keep your own name.
    • iOS: tap Add wine and type the wine name. To link it to Vinify, choose Match wine, search the database and pick the vintage.
  4. For each wine, write a tasting note and set points (50 to 100). A wine counts as Tasted once it has a note, points or a picture, or when you choose Mark as tasted.

Match, publish and tidy up

  • Match wine (iOS) or picking a database wine (web) links the wine to its Vinify profile. Change match picks another wine. On the web you can edit the name of an unmatched wine directly.
  • Publish makes the tasting note of a matched wine public on the wine's page. Taste & publish marks it tasted and publishes it in one step. Unmatched wines always stay private.
  • Public profile opens the wine's Vinify page.
  • On iOS you can add, change or remove a picture of the bottle, and edit the vintage.
  • Delete removes the wine and its note from the session.

Share a session

  1. Open your session and choose Share Session (web) or Share (iOS). Confirm: sharing cannot be undone.
  2. Vinify shows a six character access code. Copy it, or on iOS send it through the share sheet as a link.
  3. Your guests choose Join session and enter the code (or open the link in the iOS app).
  4. Guests see your wines and can write their own notes and points (and add pictures on iOS). They cannot add, rename or delete wines, and nobody sees anyone else's notes: each guest writes for themselves.

All tasted

All tasted lists every wine you have tasted with the session it came from, newest first. Search by wine name or note, filter by category, origin, producer and vintage, sort by date, points or vintage, and edit notes and points in place. The header shows how many wines you have tasted and rated.

Filter and sort a session

Sort by first or latest added, highest or lowest rated, or oldest or youngest vintage. Filter by category, origin, producer and vintage. Filters only show matched wines.

On mobile

iOS. Sessions live under Sessions on your own profile, next to Activity and Stats. The home screen button also offers Join session. Each wine is a card with the name, note, points and picture; swipe left or press and hold for the actions. Sessions you have shared show the access code at the top, and tapping it opens the share sheet. All tasted is on the web only.

Android. Tasting sessions are not in the Android app yet. Android users can rate wines with a quick taste (see tasting notes).

Common questions

Are my session notes public?

No. Everything in a session is private. Notes on matched wines also appear privately in your tasting history, and only become public when you choose Publish.

What is the difference between a matched and an unmatched wine?

A matched wine is linked to its Vinify profile, so it has a label, origin, grapes and a public page, and its note joins your tasting history. An unmatched wine is just the name you typed; it stays in the session only.

Can I unshare a session?

No. Once shared, the session keeps its access code. Anyone with the code can join.

What can people who join my session do?

They see your wines and write their own notes and points, and on iOS add pictures. They cannot add, rename or delete wines, and nobody sees anyone else's notes: each guest writes for themselves.

Can I delete a session?

Not yet. You can delete the wines in it.

Why don't my filters show some wines?

Filters work on matched wines only. Unmatched wines are hidden while a filter is on.

Can I use sessions on Android?

Not yet. Sessions are on the web and in the iOS app.
