Recommendations and check-ins
A recommendation is a short post about a restaurant, wine bar or other place: a comment, a photo, or both. Some app texts also call it a check-in. Recommendations appear on the place's page, in the home feed, in the recommender's profile activity and in the Following feed of their followers. Other users can like them. You create and edit recommendations in the iOS app; the Android app shows them but cannot create them yet, and the web does not show them.

How to use it
Recommend a place (iOS)
- Open a place and tap Recommend. You can also start from Where to drink good wine.
- The place is filled in when you start from its page. Otherwise tap Location and search for the place.
- Write what you think, add a photo from the camera or your gallery, or both.
- Tap Post.
Your recommendation shows "*Your name* recommended *Place*" with the photo and text.
Edit or delete a recommendation
Tap the three dots on your own recommendation and choose Edit or Delete. When you edit, you can change the place, the text and the photo, or remove the photo.
Like a recommendation
Tap the heart, or double tap the photo. Tap the heart again to remove your like.
Read recommendations
- Place page (iOS): up to four recommendation cards, with experts' cards in gold, and the full list in the place's activity.
- Home feed and profiles: recommendations appear between tasting notes, newest first.
- Translate: when the text is in another language than your app, tap Translate.
On mobile
iOS. Creating, editing, deleting and liking recommendations all work in the iOS app. Tap the recommender's name to open their profile and the place's name to open the place.
Android. The Android app shows recommendations in the home feed and on profiles, with the photo, text and likes. It cannot create or edit recommendations yet, and tapping the name or the place does nothing.
Web. The web does not show recommendations.
Common questions
Is a check-in the same as a recommendation?
Yes. Both words describe the same post about a place.
Do I need to add a photo?
No. Add a comment, a photo, or both.
Who can see my recommendations?
Everyone. Recommendations are always public.
Can I recommend a place that is not on Vinify yet?
Yes. Search for it when you pick the location; Vinify adds the place.
Why can't I recommend from Android?
The Android app does not support creating recommendations yet. Use the iOS app.
