Market value
Market value puts the market price of your wines next to your own prices. The data comes from Liv-ex, the fine wine exchange. You see what your cellar is worth on the market and how that value moved over time, which wines rose or fell in the last 30 days, and which wines on your list are priced under or over the market. Each matched wine also shows its Liv-ex prices on its own profile.
It is one permission with two names: the Market value add-on on business plans, and Vinify Plus for private users, bought in the iOS or Android app. The same permission unlocks the market value, the critic scores and the notes of the Liv-ex critics on the web, iOS and Android.

How to use it
The Market value page (web)
Open Market value in the cellar sidebar. Without access the page describes the feature and offers it. With access it has three parts.
- Summary. Your cellar's total buying price, total selling price and total market value, with the average per bottle, the number of wines and the number of bottles. Business cellars see both with and without VAT.
- Selling price vs. Market value. A list of your wines that have Liv-ex data, with your selling price next to the Liv-ex average market value and the difference between them. Filter All, Under (your price is below the market) or Over (your price is above the market), and narrow by region or by producer. The list is sorted by the size of the difference and loads more as you scroll.
- Market value change. Wines whose market value rose or fell between last month and this month. Filter All, Rising or Falling. Each row shows the old and the new value and the change in percent.
Wines without a selling price, and wines whose value has not changed, are not in these lists.
Where else market value shows
- Cellar home. The Cellar value card shows the market value line next to your buying price line over a chosen period, the change in the last 30 days and the 30 day movers. Without access the card shows a locked market value line and a link to the add-on.
- Cellar table. A Market column, a sort by market value, and a market value total in the statistics panel.
- Wine profile, Pricing tab. Liv-ex average market value, lowest recorded price and last trade price, the average Vinify restaurant price, the date of the last update and a refresh button. Without access the block shows a short promo and a link.
- Wine profile (database). A wine that is matched to Vinify's database and has a Liv-ex identifier can also show critic scores.
Only wines matched to Vinify's database with a Liv-ex identifier carry market data. Custom wines do not, and wines Liv-ex does not trade do not either.
On mobile
- iOS. The cellar home has a Cellar value block with the buying price and market value lines, the 30 day change and a Rising and Falling list. Tapping it opens the Cellar value screen with the same data and a period picker. Wine profiles show a Liv-ex market value section for the vintage, per bottle size. Private users unlock market value with the Vinify Plus in-app purchase. Business users without the add-on see a locked block that opens the plan screen.
- Android. The cellar home has a Cellar value block and a locked state that opens the paywall. Wine profiles lock the critic badges without access. There is no Market value page and no per wine Liv-ex block.
Common questions
Why has a wine no market value?
It is not matched to a Vinify database wine that carries a Liv-ex identifier, or Liv-ex has no data for that vintage. Match custom wines to the database first. Not every wine is traded on Liv-ex.
How often do the values update?
Liv-ex prices are refreshed for the whole database once a month. You can refresh one wine at any time from its Pricing tab. The cellar value line on the home card is written once a day.
Is the market value in my currency?
Liv-ex quotes in euro. Cellars in NOK get the values converted at a fixed rate that Vinify maintains. Other currencies are shown in euro. Changing the cellar currency does not convert market values the way it converts your own prices.
What do Under and Over mean?
Under: your selling price is below the Liv-ex average market value. Over: above it.
Why does a wine show a market value on the home card but not on the Market value page?
The page compares your selling price with the market. A wine without a selling price is left out of the comparison, while its market value still counts in the cellar total.
Why does my cellar have a market value when none of my wines are on Liv-ex?
The daily cellar value falls back to your buying price for wines without a market value, so the market value line never drops to zero just because a wine is not traded.
Where do Liv-ex prices show, and where not?
On your cellar pages and on wine profiles when you have the permission. They never go onto a public wine list, into a wine list export or onto a public wine profile. The Excel export of your inventory includes them, for you only.
Where does the market value of one wine come from?
Vinify takes the first value it has, in this order: the Liv-ex average market price, then the Liv-ex last trade price, then the average Vinify price (what business cellars on Vinify sell the wine for, together with the Vinmonopolet price when there is one), and finally your own buying price. So every wine has a value, and the value is the market's whenever the market has one.
