Wine search and filters

Search finds wines in the Vinify wine database while you type. The same box also finds producers, countries, regions, subregions, grapes, wine styles, events, wine places and experts. Picking a wine opens its wine profile. Picking a producer, a region or a grape opens a list of its wines, which you can narrow down with filters and sort. Search works without an account. You sign in only for "Rated by me" and for actions on a wine, such as tasting it or adding it to your cellar.

How to use it

Search as you type

  1. Type at least three characters in the search box. Results appear after a short pause.
  2. Each result line says what it is, for example Wine, Producer, Region or Event.
  3. Pick a line:
    • A wine opens its wine profile.
    • A producer, country, region, subregion or grape opens the wine list filtered by it.
    • An event opens the event page, a wine place opens its profile and an expert opens the expert's profile.

Wine lines match words in the name of the wine, the name of the producer and the names Vinmonopolet uses, and they tolerate small typos. A Vinmonopolet product number of three digits or more also finds the wine. Grapes, regions and styles get lines of their own. A grape or region finds a wine line only when the word is part of the wine's name.

The wine list on the web

The search page, titled "Top rated wines", lists wines from the database.

  • Filters. On a wide screen the filters sit in a column on the left. On a phone, tap Filters. At the top are switches: Available only (visitors and private accounts), HoReCa only (business accounts), Expert rated and Rated by me. Below are Store, Category, Price, Producer, Origin (country, region or subregion), Expert, Food pairing, Grapes, Vintages and Bottle size. Business accounts also see Supplier.
  • Starting point. Visitors and private accounts start with Available only and Expert rated switched on. Business accounts start with HoReCa only.
  • Favorite stores. In the Store filter, the star marks a store as your favorite. You need to be signed in.
  • Sort. Rating high to low (the default), Rating low to high, Price high to low, Price low to high, Latest reviews, Most reviews, Youngest vintage and Oldest vintage.
  • Results. 24 wines per page with page numbers at the bottom. Above the list you see how many wines match and a chip for each active filter. The x on a chip removes it and Clear all removes them all.
  • Few results. When three wines or fewer match, the page shows them and then adds "Showing unavailable wines and wines not rated by experts" with more wines.
  • No results. The page says "Please try removing some filters, using the search field or" with a Reset all filters link.
  • Share a search. The filters are part of the page address, so a copied link opens the same list.

Each wine card shows the expert and user scores, the style, the name and vintage, the origin with a flag, the bottle size when it is not 0.75 L, the price and where the wine is available. Business accounts see prices without VAT. Signed in, a wine line in the search box also offers Taste and Add.

On mobile

iOS. Tap the Search tab.

  1. Before you type, the screen shows your recent searches. The x removes one and Clear all removes them all.
  2. Type at least three characters. The first line repeats your text with a result count. Tap it to see Search results for that text. Tap any other line to open it.
  3. The filter icon inside the search box opens Filters. When you have picked filters, Apply filters opens Search results.
  4. On Search results, 20 wines load at a time and more load as you scroll. The chips at the top open Filters, Origin, Producer, Price range and Style. Chips for active filters have an x, and Clear all removes them all.
  5. Sort offers Rating: High to low (the default), Rating: Low to high, Price: High to low, Price: Low to high, Last reviewed and Most reviews.
  6. When you filter by exactly one producer, region or subregion that has a guide, the guide appears above the wines.
  7. Each wine has a bookmark button, a tasted button that opens Quick taste, and an add to cellar button. Adding to the cellar needs an account.

The filters are Show available, Expert rating only, Rated by me, Style, Bottle size, Price range, Expert, Food pairing, Grape, Origin, Producer and Vintage. The search box also finds other Vinify users.

Android. Open search from the home screen.

  1. Type at least three characters and tap a line. Wines, producers, countries, regions, subregions, grapes, styles, events, experts and users open. Wine places cannot be opened yet, and tapping the line with your own text does nothing yet.
  2. The filter icon in the search box opens the filters. Apply shows Search results.
  3. On Search results, 25 wines load at a time. The chips at the top open the filters, Origin, Producer, Price and Style. Chips for active filters have an x, and Clear all removes them all.
  4. Sort offers Rating: High to low, Rating: Low to high, Price: High to low, Price: Low to high, Last reviewed and Most reviewed. The list starts on Last reviewed.
  5. Each wine has a bookmark and a taste button.

The filters are Expert rating only, Rated by me, Style, Bottle size, Price, Expert, Origin, Producer, Food pairing, Grape and Vintage. There is no Show available filter and no list of recent searches. Leaving Search results clears the filters.

Common questions

Why do I get different wines on the web and in the app?

The web starts with Available only and Expert rated switched on for visitors and private accounts. The apps start with no filters. Switch the same filters on to compare.

Type the grape or region and pick the line marked Grape or Region. That opens its wines. Wine lines only match wine and producer names.

Does search handle typos?

Small typos in wine and producer names, yes.

Why does the web page show wines that are not available?

When three wines or fewer match your filters, the page adds wines that are unavailable or not rated by experts, under "Showing unavailable wines and wines not rated by experts".

Why can't I switch on Rated by me?

You need to be signed in. It shows the wines you have rated.

On the web, yes. Copy the page address. The apps have no share for a search.

How do I mark a favorite store?

On the web, tap the star next to the store in the Store filter while signed in.
