Wine guide and 100-point scale

Wine guides are short articles about where a wine comes from: the producer, the region and the subregion. Each guide has a text and often a photo. You find them on the wine profile and at the top of search results when you look at one producer, region or subregion. The 100-point scale explains what the scores on Vinify mean, from 50 (Unacceptable) to 100 (Spectacular).

How to use it

Read a guide on a wine profile

  1. Open a wine.
  2. Scroll to Origin information. You see one card for each guide the wine has: producer, region and subregion.
  3. Tap a card, or Read more, to open the full guide.

Filter your search by exactly one producer, region or subregion. If that place or producer has a guide, it appears above the wines (iOS).

Report a mistake in a guide

The guide texts are generated with AI. On iOS the full guide ends with "Text generated with AI. Contact hello@vinify.app if you spot a mistake." Tap it to write an email to Vinify.

Understand the 100-point scale

Vinify uses a version of Robert Parker's 100-point scale:

PointsMeaning
96 to 100Extraordinary
93 to 95Outstanding
90 to 92Excellent
87 to 89Very good
84 to 86Good
80 to 83Average
70 to 79Acceptable
60 to 69Bad
50 to 59Unacceptable

The word appears next to a score when you rate a wine and on tasting notes. On iOS, tap the question mark on the rating screen or on the list of tasting notes to see the scale. See the tasting notes article for how to rate a wine.

On mobile

iOS. Guides show on the wine profile and above search results. The full guide opens as a page with the photo on top, the guide type (Producer, Region or Subregion), the country and the AI note with the contact address. The question mark on the rating screen explains the scale.

Android. Guides show on the wine profile as cards in the order producer, region, subregion, and open in a sheet. Search results for producers, regions and subregions show the first line of their guide. There is no screen that explains the scale; the words appear next to scores.

Web. The web does not show guides or the scale explanation.

Common questions

Why does this wine have no guide?

Guides are written for some producers, regions and subregions only. When none of them has a guide, the section does not appear.

Who writes the guides?

The Vinify team adds them. The texts are generated with AI, so please email hello@vinify.app if something is wrong.

Is the guide available in Norwegian?

Each guide has one text, shown the same in every app language.

Why is 80 "Average" and not 70?

Vinify moved the middle of Parker's scale up. Wines below 80 are rare in the Norwegian market, so 70 to 79 is called Acceptable.
