Label and barcode scan
Scan opens the camera in the Vinify app and finds a wine from its barcode or its label. Point the camera at the barcode and the app looks the code up in the Vinify database and opens the wine profile. Take a picture of the label, or pick one from your photos, and Vinify's AI reads the producer, wine name and year from the image, searches the database and opens the best match. From the profile you can rate the wine, see prices and availability, or add it to your cellar. Scan is in the iOS and Android apps only; the web app has no scanner.

How to use it
On mobile
- Tap Scan in the bottom bar. The first time, allow camera access. The screen shows the camera with a frame and the instruction "Take a picture of a wine label or point the camera at a barcode to scan automatically".
- Barcode. Hold the barcode inside the frame. When it is read, the app looks it up and opens the wine profile. If no wine carries that code you see "Barcode not found" with the advice "Try taking a picture of the label or doing a manual search".
- Label. Tap the shutter with the label in the frame, or tap the thumbnail to choose a photo from your gallery. While the AI reads the label the app shows "Matching…" with a wine joke. A match opens the wine profile; otherwise you see "Label not found" with "Try scanning the barcode or doing a manual search".
- On iOS the profile that a label scan opened carries a "Wrong match? Find the right wine" link. It opens search with the text the AI read from the label, so you can pick the right wine yourself. On iOS the photo you took is offered when you write a tasting note or a quick taste.
- Use the light button in low light. On iOS you can also flip to the front camera.
On the web: not available.
Common questions
Which barcodes work?
The EAN barcode on the bottle. Vinify matches it against the barcodes it holds for bottles in its database, which come mainly from the Norwegian market. A bottle without a stored barcode gives "Barcode not found" even if the wine itself is in Vinify.
Why did the label scan pick the wrong wine?
The AI reads producer, name and year from the photo and Vinify returns the first search hit for that text. Similar names, a cropped label or an unreadable year can send it to a neighboring wine. On iOS use "Wrong match? Find the right wine"; on Android search by name.
Does the label scan work offline?
No. The photo is sent to Vinify's AI service.
What happens to my photo?
It is used for the match. On iOS it is also kept in the app for the tasting note you may write on that wine.
Can I scan on the web?
No. Scan is a mobile feature.
Can I add the scanned wine to my cellar?
Yes, from the wine profile that opens, like any other wine.
